Disaster Preparation for Your Pets
During Hurricane season, if you must evacuate your home, plan for the worst-case scenario and be sure to include your pets' needs in your plans. Even if you think you may be gone for only a day, assume that you may not be allowed to return for several weeks. Follow the instructions of local and state officials when recommendations for evacuation have been announced.
Your Pet Evacuation Kit
- A traveling bag, crate or sturdy carrier, ideally one for each pet and label them
- Collars (with ID and rabies tags) and leashes
- Water-proof container to keep documents safe
- Medical records, including vaccination history
- Your pet's microchip information

- Grooming supplies
- Recent photos of your pets (in case you are separated and need to make “Lost” posters)
- Toys to keep your pet(s) occupied
